Description

In celebration of the end of the line for the C3 Corvette, the Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors released a Collector's Edition Corvette in 1982. Not just a stickers and stripes package like some other special edition packages, the Collector's Edition had a number of key features that separated it from it's standard Corvette brethren. The most notable feature is the opening rear hatch with inside release. The Collector's Edition was the only C3 Corvette to ever have a opening hatch, and foretold the future with the upcoming C4 models. Other unique parts of the Collector Edition package are the custom graphics on the sides and hood, distinct pinstriping, bronze tinted removable glass roof panels, 15" "Turbine" look aluminum wheels reminiscent of the 1963 Stingray, and the Silver Beige Metallic paint that was only available on the Collector Edition model. On the inside, the Collector's Edition was just as unique. These Corvette's were as fully loaded as they came in 1982. The features list reads like a book, full custom leather interior, power driver seat, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, rear window defrost, cruise control, AM/FM cassette stereo with rear speakers, and even a lighted passenger vanity mirror on the sunvisor!! Under the hood is the L83 "Cross-Fire" V-8 with electronic fuel injection making 200 horsepower, a 10 horsepower increase over 1981's 4-barrel equipped Corvette. This engine also foretold the C4 as it was the standard engine in the new 1984 C4 Corvettes. A manual transmission was not available in 1982, the first time since 1955, so all Corvette's came with a 700R-4 four speed automatic transmission with lock up torque converter. This transmission is smooth shifting and combined with a 2.87 rear axle ratio give the Corvette a great highway cruise RPM. Independent suspension and disc brakes are found at all four corners, giving this Corvette a supple ride and great stopping power.
Chevrolet produced just 6,579 Collector Edition Corvetes in 1982, and this is a true one owner low mileage survivor. It has been lovingly cared for, always garaged, and has excellent documentation including the original window sticker. If you're a fan of the C3 Corvette, then you can't go wrong with this one!!
